Smiling may be Buddy the Elf’s favorite … but, Will Ferrellhas people guessing – ’cause he says he designed the iconic character to shake things up!
The actor was interrupted by “New Heights” – travis And Jason Kelce‘s podcast — and, they asked him about his recent appearance at an LA Kings game that sent the Internet into a frenzy … where he arrived as the buddy who’s fallen on hard times.

Will explains that the idea came to him a week before the game … and, he originally bought the costume and wore a somber outfit – doing it more to amuse himself than anything else.
Ferrell is a season ticket holder — with seats on the glass at Crypto.com Arena… and, he thought people would get a kick out of it.
Will says he was surprised how big the moment got… so many people online seemed to notice he was promoting something — even though he thought it would be funny. So, don’t expect a dark “Elf” sequel next Christmas!
Ferrell ends the clip by explaining, “Sometimes, I like to do weird things like that to give it a boost.”
Bottom line … Will Ferrell is not a cotton-headed Ninny Muggins — but, he’s always trying to make people laugh!
