view Co-host Sunny Hostin has found herself embroiled in a very surprising scandal.
Sunny’s surgeon husband, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, has been charged with federal insurance fraud in a new lawsuit.
In court documents filed this week, Emanuel is named as one of 200 defendants in a lawsuit that has some major implications.
Legal problems of Emmanuel Hostin
In the lawsuit, Emanuel is accused of “receiving kickbacks by performing surgeries and billing … taxi companies and the company that insures Uber and Lyft drivers.”
“Hostin knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other health services, including arthroscopic surgeries,” reads a filing obtained by Page Six.
The outlet described the lawsuit as “one of the largest racketeering-influenced and corrupt organizations (RICO) cases ever filed in New York.”
The lawsuit alleges that insurance firm American Transit was billed “in exchange for kickbacks and/or other compensation that was disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.”
Emmanuel’s answer
Emanuel has not spoken to the media since the suit was filed on December 17, but his lawyer, Daniel John Thwaites, issued a statement on his behalf.
Thwaites explains Daily Mail that his client “denies each of the allegations,” adding that the lawsuit is “a blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier.”
“This is intended to intimidate and harass physicians from collecting American transit insurance and care provided to their passengers,” Thwaites alleged.
Sunny keeps mum
Not surprisingly, Sunny has decided not to speak publicly on the matter.
She may have remained silent on the advice of her husband’s legal counsel. But whatever, it’s probably the right decision.
