The politician spoke at a press conference after Monday Luigi MangioneA top person of interest in the fatal shooting of the UnitedHealthcare CEO was arrested in Pennsylvania the same day.
Addressing reporters, Shapiro clarified that Mangione was “no hero” … “In America, we don’t kill people in cold blood to settle policy differences or express a point of view.”
He doubled down on his stance by praising the McDonald’s employee who called 911 on Mangione after seeing him at the fast food chain … labeling the staff “the real heroes in this story.”
Mangione has since been charged Forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records or identification, and providing false identification to law enforcement.
It’s no secret that Mangione’s profile has risen since he was named a person of interest in the murder investigation … his social media accounts have seen the number of followers An increase of thousands — before being suspended.
Countless people have voiced their support for Mangione … many have expressed their frustration with the insurance industry. In fact, one person even launched a GoFundMe to support LM’s defense fund.
Still, UnitedHealthcare is seeking justice after the fatal firing of its CEO last week. The company released a statement Monday, saying Mangione’s concern “brings some relief to Brian’s family, friends, colleagues and the many others affected by this unexpected tragedy.”
The statement continued … “We thank law enforcement, and we will continue to work with them on this investigation. We ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy as they grieve.”
