A man is stepping forward with a jaw-dropping claim — he says he may have tracked down the killer who shot UnitedHealthcare’s CEO. Brian Thompson … Thanks all for the Citi Bike tracking data.
A data scientist named RileyJoe, who goes by @rtwlz at X, dropped a bombshell post revealing how he’s been scraping data from Citi bikes every minute… and he could see exactly where individual bikes went. is
I’m pretty sure that’s where the UnitedHealthcare killer ran to. According to the police, he escaped on an electric city bike.
I constantly scrape CitiBike data every minute, so I can see where individual bikes go.
Northbound only citybikes to drop in…

And here’s the kicker – he says only Within 10 minutes of the shooting near the Hilton Hotel, a northbound Citi Bike, where Thompson was checking in, left at 6:44 AM and headed straight for a destination at Madison Avenue and 82nd St. at 6:52 AM.
Riley shared a screenshot of a map that tracks the journey that supports his observation.
In a follow-up X post, Riley revealed that he had already informed the NYPD of his findings. And it looks like law enforcement is onto it … sources tell TMZ detectives caught wind of Riley’s Citi Bike scoop and are looking into it.
It’s still up in the air whether the detectives stumbled upon Riley’s post themselves or if he gave them a heads-up. While they’re calling the Citi Bike lead “short,” they’re not closing it — law enforcement is actively working the lead with their group in search of answers.
Sources tell us detectives are diving deep into footage from the NYPD’s “Ring of Steel” cameras scattered throughout Manhattan. With so many cameras, it’s easy to track a suspect’s every move from block to block, especially in the midtown area.
We’re told police are confident the suspect’s face is in full surveillance footage, and they’re confident they’ll be able to track his movements from start to finish.
Initially the NYPD Chilling surveillance footage dropped From Wednesday morning outside the Hilton Hotel. The footage shows a masked shooter walking up behind Thompson, 50, pulling out a handgun, and firing at least 3 shots from less than 10 feet away. He then disappeared into an alley on the other side of the street.
Thompson was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The motive behind the shooting is still a mystery.
