Big day for Eric and Lyle Menendez… Relatives set to meet with new Los Angeles DA Nathan Hochman to discuss resenting the brothers for their parents’ infamous murders decades ago.
Twenty family members of Jose and Kitty Menendez — who were shot to death by their children in 1989 — will sit down with Hochman today to ask the DA to commute the sentences for Eric and Lyle.
As you know, the brothers were convicted of murder in their second trial in 1996 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Their first trial ended in a mistrial.
During today’s meeting, family members will speak in support of “a grueling process that reflects Eric and Lyle’s abuse, trauma, and demonstrated rehabilitation over the past 35 years.”
The family also notes that Lyle and Eric have spent decades behind bars “taking responsibility for their actions and contributing positively to their community through tremendous personal growth.”
Back in October, then-LA DA George Gascon held a press conference and announced that he would ask a judge to resentence the brothers.
But Gascon lost his bid to re-elect Hochman, who has yet to say what his position will be on the upset.
Family lawyers lobbied Hochman late last year … to meet with a lawyer for family members who oppose the brothers’ release.
A hearing is scheduled for later this month. Eric and Lyle’s attorney, Mark Geragos, would not only ask his clients to resentence … he would ask the judge to change the charge from murder to manslaughter, which would immediately free Eric and Lyle.
