Tamil cinema icon Ajith Kumar, who recently grabbed the headlines after finishing third in the Dubai 24H race, has shared some safety tips for ‘good Samaritans’ to help road accident victims.
Ajith highlighted that it is important to prioritize the safety and well-being of those involved and not take matters into our own hands. The actor believes that when one sees a road accident victim, it is best not to pick them up like a ragdoll and ‘throw them into an auto or cab’. Instead call an ambulance and wait for the paramedics to arrive, he said in an interview with Gulf News.
Sharing a personal anecdote, he said, “It happened to a very close friend of mine, who had a car accident in Pune and the people around (him) thought he was very kind and a good Samaritan; (they) picked him up, he had a broken bone… the poor guy is now confined to a wheelchair. I’m not trying to say we need to educate people about this, but they need to be told. is that “You don’t just walk up to an accident victim and pick them up like a ragdoll. Wait for the paramedics to come.”
Then some people tend to give water to them (road accident victims). Then if that person needs surgery immediately, you cannot do surgery immediately because that person has drunk water… it (could lead to their death), he added.
“In India, and in most parts of the world, people think they are good Samaritans. They see an accident victim on the road and they go, pick them up and put them in an auto. If the person, unfortunately, has a spinal cord injury, by doing that, you cripple them for life,” said the actor.
Kumar’s racing team got off to a flying start in the Michelin 24H Dubai Endurance Race, finishing third in the 991 category. Adding to the victory, Kumar was awarded the prestigious “Spirit of the Race” award in the GT4 category.
